This is a treasure from my collection that I'm ready to re-home. Pushing toward the 2 centuries old mark, these brooches gained popularity, especially in the 1830s, through the Art Deco era. They were inspired by the famous Halley's Comet that pays a visit every 76 or so years.
This pin features some beautiful detailing for its tiny size! All the black, fine, enamel inlay is in tact. There are some abrasions to the hand-cut gem (which is likely glass or rock crystal quartz (untested). The brooch portion is not marked, but tests at 14k solid gold. I've not tested the pin part, but it also appears to be solid gold--just a varied color.
The brooch measures 1 1/8 x 7/16" and weighs 1.8g.
